Joseph Arruda, 88, of New Bedford died Saturday October 26, 2002 at the Oaks Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Eva (Coutu) Arruda, and son of the late Joseph and Lottie (Correia) Arruda.
Mr. Arruda was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He had lived in South Dartmouth for 20 years before returning to New Bedford last year.
Mr. Arruda was formerly employed by Antone Pacheco Painting & Contracting, where he specialized in interior design.
He was a former member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and the Santo Christo Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice H. Costa of New Bedford; 2 sons, Paul Arruda of New Bedford and Jeffrey Arruda of Fall River; 2 sisters, Hilda Torres and Gertrude Torres, both of Westport; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.He was the father of the late Joseph Arruda and Carol E. Hardy, great-great-grandfather of the late Andrew Kevin Costa, and brother of the late Albert Arruda, Letitia Perry, Frances Arguin and Mercedes Amaral.
His Service will be held on Friday November 1, 2002 at 12 Noon in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery will be private. His family will receive visitors on Friday from 11 AM to 12 Noon prior to the service. Remembrances may be made to the charity of one's choice.
