TEWKSBURY - Eleanor M. (Kempton) Jones, age 80, a resident of Tewksbury for that last four
decades, died Saturday, March 3, at the Walden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West
Concord, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Robert R. Jones Sr., who died in
January 1999.
She was born in Somerville, on November 30, 1926, a daughter of the late Ethelbert Lyle and
Nellie M. (Wright) Kempton. She was raised in Somerville, graduated from Somerville High
School, and had lived in Wilmington before moving to Tewksbury in 1960.
She had worked as a clerk and cashier at Marshall’s stores.
Active in area organizations, she was a member of the Wilmington American Legion Auxiliary,
Tewksbury Lions Club, the Disabled American veterans Auxiliary, and volunteered for the
American Epilepsy Foundation.
Mrs. Jones was also a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
She is survived by six children, Robert J. Jones and his wife Sandra (Williams) of Tewksbury,
Donald J Jones and his wife Maryellen ( Parker) of Shirley, Patricia A. Devlin of Boston, Stephen
J. Jones of Allentown, NH, Timothy P. Jones and his wife Alison of Hampton, NH; a daughter in
law, Sheri (Jones) McDougall of Weymouth; ten grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; three
sisters, Grace Quinlan of N.C., Ruth Boudreau of Tewksbury, Gladys Demone of Somerville; and
many nieces and nephews.
She was also mother of the late Kenneth B. Jones, and sister of the late Janet Novielle, Dorothy
Silveria, and Alice Mercon.
Her funeral service was held Wednesday, Mar. 7, in the funeral home. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorials to the Epilepsy Foundation, 540 Gallivan
