New Bedford - Eduardo Mario Ascensao, age 71, died Friday, February 23, 2007 at home surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Maria T. (Corujo) Ascensao of New Bedford. He was the father of Mario Gomes husband of Claudia and Eduardo Gomes husband of Andrea both of Dartmouth. He was the grandfather of Andreia, Alex, Adam and Emma. Mr. Ascensao was the brother of Fernando Ascensao and Candida Varela both of Portugal. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ascensao was the son of Fernando and Herminia (Gomes) Ascensao. He was born in Ilhavo, Portugal and
lived in this area since 1977. Mr. Ascensao was a commercial fisherman. He was a member and Vice President of the United Fisherman’s Club and a member of the New Bedford Fisherman’s Pension Trust.
Mr. Ascensao’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, Monday, February 26, 2007 at 9:30A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 - 5 P.M.
