Mrs. Alta Lee Jones Rice was born August 24, 1910 to the late Eaphrom P. and Alma Pope Jones. She departed this life February 6, 2007.
Mrs. Rice accepted Jesus as her personal savior and joined St. Rebecca P. B. Church where she remained a member for more than seventy years. She was preceded in death by three children, Hazel Jean Donaldson, Gloria Alexander Rice and Alefina Rice.
She leaves to cherish her memories nine children, Alma Woodard, Johnnie Cross (Howard); Sharon Derrick (Alfred) both of Gurley, AL; Sarah Bone (David) of Huntsville, AL; William Etta Bailey (Freddie) of Detroit, MI; Harvey Rice, Jr. (Louise), John Rice, Anthony Rice (Annette) of Huntsville and Eaphrom P. Rice (Margaret) of Columbus, GA; one brother, Willie R. Pope of Canton, OH; fifty-three grandchildren; seventy-seven great grand children; twenty great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rice will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday from the St. Rebecca P. B. Church with Reverend Perry Clark officiating. Interment will be in Penney Cemetery with Nelms Memorial Funeral Home handling the services. The Rice family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m. from the funeral home. The remains of Mrs. Rice will be in the church one hour prior to funeral time.
