Obituary

Mr. Marvin Taylor departed this life on Saturday, December 23, 2006, at his home in New Market, Alabama. He was born in the Big Cove Community on February 29, 1924 to the late Thomas and Lucia Taylor. On August 5, 1947, he was united in holy matrimony to Rosie Marie Lipscomb. To this union eight children were born.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Taylor, his sister, Lou-Velma-Taylor-Wynn and his brothers, George Taylor and Charles N. Taylor. The destiny of his life spanned eighty-one years before his journey home.

He completed his education in Normal, Alabama at Alabama A&M University. Marvin served in the navy during World War II. In 1955, he moved his family to New York.

Marvin was a founding member of the Jamaica Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Queens, New York, there he served as head deacon for many years. Marvin was instrumental in his support of his own as well as the Asian and Hispanic communities on Long Island.

His career included owner of Taylor Electrical Company and many other entrepreneurial ventures in Hempstead, New York. In the late sixties, he became physical plant engineer at Oakwood College. Marvin served as Director of the Electrical Licensing Board in Hempstead, New York.

Marvin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Rosie Marie of New Market, Alabama; three sons: Larry (Lillie) Taylor, Thomas David Taylor, both of Ripley, Tennessee and Marvin Taylor II of Farmingville, New York; four daughters: Marvina Taylor, Velma Taylor-Gowie, Dolores Taylor, all of Hempstead, New York, and Deborah (Ervin) Taylor-Bogan of Suffolk County, New York; one brother, Theoplus Jefferson Taylor; one sister, Gladys (Alva) Jacobs of Huntsville, Alabama; two brothers-in-law, Elijah Wynn Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia and William T. Lipscomb of Hempstead, New York; one sister-in-law, Pearl Taylor of Chicago, Illinois; twenty-one grandchildren: Wayne, Michael, Kamina, Lisa, Tina, Ervin-Lee, Bruce, Larry Jr., Mark, Luciana, Gary, James, Hamilton, Teresa, Stephen, Derick, Darryl, Paul, Gabriel, Marvin III, and Hadassah; and thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
