Michael J. McCarthy 47, died Saturday February 17th at Jordan Hospital suddenly. He was the husband of Linda (Weckbacher) McCarthy.
Born in Boston, brought up in Norwell, he was the son of Edward and Louise (Pegnam) McCarthy of So. Plymouth.
He was a graduate of Thayer Academy and attended Northeastern University for 2 years.
Michael worked in the family’s business McCarthy Ice Cream in Whitman for 20 years, then in 1995 he worked as a sales manager for Garelick Farms.
He was a member of the International Ice Cream Assoc. and the Mass. Restaurant and Hotel Assoc.
Michael was very active with his children in sports, coaching many of their teams.
In addition to his wife Linda (Weckbacher) McCarthy of Kingston he is survived by their children, Jack M. Fairweather of Colorado, Lori Fairweather of Quincy and Lindsey Fairweather of Kingston, their grandchildren Lily and Layla Fairwather, his parents Edward and Louise (Pegnam) McCarthy of So. Plymouth, his brother and sisters; John P. McCarthy and Carol Maguire both of Duxbury, Margaret Bonitatibus of Whitman and the late Clare Fenton, his aunt and uncle; William and Frances McCarthy, and his cousins; William, Richard,,Frank and Paul McCarthy, Christina Doran, Ann Joyce and Julie Keir.
His Funeral will be held Friday February 23rd at 9:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street(Route 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass in the Holy Ghost Church, School St. Whitman, MA. at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the St James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours Wednesday February 21st 7-9 PM and Thursday February 22nd 3-8 PM. Donations may be made in his name to the Catholic Charities of Boston, 75 Kneeland Street, Boston, MA. 02111
