Brother of Cecelia Carr and Dorothy Dwyer both of Roslindale, Evangeline Cunniff of Walpole, Fr. Mark O’Connor of NY, and the late Genevieve Mitchell, Warren O’Connor and Gertrude O’Hmeyer. Grandfather of Eric, Joseph and Mark Hager, Kevin and Courtney McGrath and Caroline and Grace O’Connor.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton Wednesday at 9am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/ St. Edward Church at 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. O’Connor died unexpectedly early Saturday at his home; he was the son of the late John and Geneva (McDevit) O’Connor. He was born in Boston and raised and educated in Hyde Park and has been a resident of Brockton for more than 53 years. William attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston were he received a Certificate in Engineering. He is a WWII Coast Guard Veteran, discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class entitled to the American and WWII Victory Ribbons and receiving two Bronze Stars. Mr. O’Connor was an Engineer for the State of Massachusetts for 39 years, mainly working in district 7 located in Middleboro, where he oversaw the building of many roads and bridges here in Massachusetts, he retired in 1985.
William was a proud American with great respect for his country and environment. He was a fun loving man who enjoyed traveling especially to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, the sociability of people, the longtime comradery with his friends while working for the State, but most of all spending time with and enjoying the company of his family.
