Francis “Roy” Nelson, 77, of 40 Fishtown Lane, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at the mystic Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility surrounded by his family.
He was born July 14, 1929 in Noank the son of the late Thorleif and Frida Nelson.
He married Marilyn “Jane” Bowen on May 3, 1952 at Christ Episcopal Church in Westerly, RI.
He will be sadly missed by his wife “Jane” of 54 years; daughter Vickie Ambrosch and spouse Stephan of Pawcatuck, daughter Sharon Damato and spouse Jeff of Noank, son Scott Nelson of mystic; grandsons Jeffrey and Benjamin Hall of Pawcatuck, sister Solveig Gray; brothers Leif and Nick Nelson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter, Evelyn, and Amy.
Roy retired in 1992 from General Dynamics after 40 years of service.
Among Roy’s hobbies were oil painting, woodworking, world travel and sailing. Roy loved to cruise Fisher’s Island Sound aboard his sailboat, “The Noank Native”. His wonderful sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew him.
