Obituary

SHREWSBURY- John S. Kay, 78, of 43 Gage Lane, Shrewsbury died Friday evening in UMASS- Memorial Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Frances T. (Thomson) Kay; a son, John F. Kay of Andover, MA; two daughters, Maryann Lane of Worcester and Nancy T. Kay of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Josephine Cusick of Dennisport, MA and Sophie Manzello of Worcester; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Kay was born in Worcester, son of the late Boleslaw Kosakowski and Bronislawa (Maliszewski) Kosakowski Zambrzycki and had lived in Shrewsbury for the pst 43 years. Mr. Kay graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1941 and in 1952 graduated from Boston University with a Degree in Biology. He also graduated from the National Institute of Drycleaning in Maryland in 1957.

Mr. Kay served on several ships with the Merchant Marine during W.W. II as a Radioman, 1st Class. He later served in the the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves.

Mr. Kay owned and operated Towne Drycleaners in Shrewsbury Center for 39 years before he retired in 1986.

Mr. Kay was a member of Saint Mary's Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Adelphi Council; a member of the Polish American Veterans of W.W. II; a member of Gallups Island Radio Association and Central Massachusetts Amateur Radio Association. Mr. Kay also was a former Town Selectman and throughout the years had helped with the audio and visual work for the Shrewsbury Town Meetings.

Mr. Kay's funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 from the Britton-Shrewsbury, (brittonfuneral homes.com) 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury with a funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling hours will be on Monday from 5-8 P.M. in the funeral home.
