CHARLOTTE, NC - John E. Aylward, age 77, a former Tewksbury resident, died Saturday, February 10 at the
Charlotte NC home of his son, William, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was
born in Boston on October 31, 1929, a son of the late John and Mary Aylward. He was raised in Jamaica Plain and
had lived in Tewksbury from 1966 until 1994, where he resided with his wife, the late Alice (Doty) Aylward until
her death in 1993. He was employed as an automotive painter and later, as an insurance adjuster. He retired to
Daytona Beach, FL in 1994 where he resided with his son, William, until he moved to Charlotte, NC last fall,
again residing with William and wife, Grace. Mr. Aylward was a loving and devoted husband and father and a
fun-loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He had many friends, was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by
all.
He is survived by seven children, John E. Aylward, Jr of Cape Coral, FL, Frank Aylward and wife, Lisa, of
Charlotte, NC, Richard Aylward of Atlanta, GA, William Aylward and wife, Grace, of Charlotte, NC, Steven
Aylward and wife, Mary, of Lowell, MA , Joy Aylward, of Charlotte, NC, and Mark Aylward and wife, Lisa, of
Charlotte, NC, sisters Dorothy Harnish of NH, and Gloria Raetano of FL, eight grandchildren, Denise Aylward,
John Malfy, Timothy and Robert Hamilton, Adam and Brad Aylward, and Matthew and David Aylward and three
great-grandchildren, John Malfy, Jr, and Jacinda and Giselle Alvarez, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service was held Friday Feb 16, in the funeral home Burial was in Wildwood
Cemetery, Wilmington, Ma. Memorials to the Hospice/Palliative Care of Charlotte, NC, 1420 E. Seventh St, Charlotte, NC 28204,, will
be appreciated.
