Obituary

Mrs. Lois Padgette Dorminy Vann, 85, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, February 8 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, February 10 at Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Ben Hill County, with Rev. Kelly Brown and Elder Paul Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Dorminy Cemetery. The Family will receive friends 7-9, Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vann was born December 9, 1921 in Irwin County, to the late Lemuel Andrew and Annie Mae Carnes Padgette. She lived in the community most of her life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1940. Mrs. Vann was a homemaker and retired as supervisor of housekeeping after 14 years at the Life Care Center. She was a former employee of the Herald Leader, a former substitute teacher at Lynwood School and worked at Ashton School. Mrs. Vann was a former member of First Baptist Church, where she served as Hostess and served on the Disaster Relief Team. She was a member of Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church and the Sturgeon Creek Ladies Circle. Mrs. Vann loved fishing and flower gardening.

Mrs. Vann is survived by her children, Carolyn (Larry) Hurst, Judy (Willis) Jarrell and Freddie Dorminy, all of Fitzgerald; stepson, James O. “Sonny” (Dale) Vann of Green Cove Springs, FL; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 7 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; brother: James (Betty) Padgette of Riedsville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Edwin Dorminy, Oliver “Pete” Vann, son, Russell Dorminy and a grandson, James Dorminy.
