Julia A. Barfield Thomas, 91, of Tifton, died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007, in Brushy Creek Church Cemetery in Ocilla. Dr. Wayne Roe and Dr. W. Ches Smith, III will officiate with burial to follow in Brushy Creek Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clay Sanders, Curt Sanders, Dustin Sanders, Darin Sanders, Grant Griffin and Levy Dill. Honorary pallbearers will be Wycliff Griffin, Eric Griffin, Stephen Pryor, Bill Barfield, Bobby Barfield, Darrell Young and Gary Kincaid. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Thomas was born on May 9, 1915 in Pulaski County, Georgia and was the daughter of William Levi Barfield and Mae Ulma Ridley Barfield, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell N. Thomas; five brothers; and five sisters. She was a sales clerk at the Tek-Nic Shop and worked there and for Harold Cohen for a total of 53 years. She was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church and had lived in Tifton for 51 years.
Ms. Thomas is survived by one daughter, Pat Berger of Tifton; two grandsons, Clay Sanders and Curt Sanders; and two great grandsons, Dustin Sanders and Darin Sanders.
