David J. O’Malley 66, of Jamaica Plain, died Monday January 29, 2007 at the home of his brother, Kevin P. O’Malley of Franklin, following a short illness.
Born in Amesbury, MA June 4, 1940 a son of the late Patrick J. and Ella T. (Hayes) O’Malley, he was educated in Boston public schools, and was a graduate of Boston College High School. He also attended and graduated Boston College, with a degree in English.
He was a retired sales representative for Sheehan’s Religious Goods in Boston.
During the Viet Nam War, he served in the US Army. He attained the rank of Specialist 4th class, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in June 1966.
A gentle and deeply religious man, he enjoyed religious man, he enjoyed religious studies and was a devout Catholic and longtime communicant of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Brookline. He was also well known for his ability in spoken and written word.
Surviving is his brother Kevin P. O’Malley and his wife Kathleen of Franklin, 2 sisters Erin O’Malley –Klein of California and Susan Farrell of Burlington. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Michael, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, and Daniel O’Malley, Sara & Jessica Klein, and Courtney Farrell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday February 1, 2007 at 8:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. with a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Sq. Franklin, at 9AM. Interment will follow in the family lot in New Calvary Cemetery 800 Harvard St. Mattapan.
Calling hours are Wednesday January 31, 2007 from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
