Obituary

LOWELL--John W. Taylor Sr. 85 years old, died late Friday evening, January 26th, at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Lucille E. (Desmond) Taylor, who died in May of 2000.

He was born in Lowell, on January 15, 1922, a son of the late John W. Taylor and Frances (Claffy) Taylor, and was the step-son of C. Frances (Casey) Kirane Taylor. He was a graduate of Lowell Public Schools.

Mr. Taylor served in the United States Army during World War II. For many years, he was employed by New England Telephone Company. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was an avid sports fan who particularly loved horse racing.

Surviving him are a son: John W. Taylor Jr., of Lowell, a teacher at Greater Lowell Technical School; a daughter-in law: Carolyn A. Taylor, of Lowell, a teacher at Greater Lowell Technical School; a daughter: Gail A. Taylor Barrata; four grandchildren: Christopher, John, Sarah, and Katie Taylor, all of Lowell; a brother: Robert Taylor, of Vermont, two sisters: Beatrice Donovan, of Connecticut; and Patricia (Taylor) Picanso, of Lowell; a sister-in-law: Gloria Desmond, of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews. I

He was the brother of the late Albert Taylor, Fred Taylor, Helen Taylor, Edward Taylor, Joseph Kirane, Mary (Kirane) Gesnaldo, Rita Catherine (Kirane) Hebert.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, January 29th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered on Tuesday, January 30th, at 9 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
