Obituary

Joseph Alves, 46, of Fairhaven died Tuesday January 23, 2007 peacefully at home. He was the husband of Donna M. (Dwelly) Alves. Joe and Donna had been married for 22 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Hilda (Mello) Alves, he lived in Fairhaven all of his life.

Joe was employed as a truck driver for Hudson RPM Distributors.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 259 in South Boston, and the Downshifters Car Club.

Joe loved fishing, camping, hunting, woodworking, old cars, and had many other interests. He was truly passionate about everything in his life, especially being "Unc" to his niece and nephews.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Julie Elizabeth Alves of Fairhaven; two brothers, Steven Alves of Virginia and David Alves of Fairhaven; his father-in-law, Douglas J. Dwelly and his wife Cheryl of Fairhaven; his mother-in-law, Mildred A. Gracia and her husband Tony of Fairhaven; "his other brothers and sister," Douglas J. Dwelly, Jr., David P. Dwelly, and Diane M. Forcier; and a niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was the brother of the late Manuel "Sonny" Alves, Jr.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday at 8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8 PM, prior to the service.
