Wilfrid J. Cloutier, 97, of Goffstown, died January 23, 2007, at the Elliot Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Manchester, July 23, 1909, he was the son of Joseph and Clarina (Boulanger) Cloutier. He attended St. Augustin School and had been an area resident for 88 years.
Mr. Cloutier worked 10 years as a shoe pattern designer, 37 years in his general store at the corner of Pinard and Mast Rds., and then as owner of W.J. Cloutier TV Center Inc.
He was a 40 year charter member and past president of the Pinardville Lions Club. He was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and the Goffstown Credit Union. He served as chairman of the Democratic Party and was also a selectman for the town of Goffstown in 1965.
He had been a member St. Edmond parish for 84 years. In addition he was a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood Monastery.
He and his wife traveled extensively throughout Europe, South America, and Africa. They wintered in Florida for 27 years where he had been very active in a variety of sports. While in Florida he received the Man of the Year award by the local men's club in 1995.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Germaine (Constant) Cloutier in 2003.
Family members include six children, Constance Mercier of Goffstown, Richard Cloutier of Houston, TX, Cecile Gaigals of North Reading, MA, Celine Carpenter of Winthrop, ME, Claudette Benavitch of Buena Vista, VA, and Colette Howarth of Warwick, RI; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday January 26, 2007 at Parish of the Transfiguration. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery.
