Obituary

WORESTER-Olive D. Malm, 93, of 1183 Main Street, died Saturday, October 5th in the Washburn House after an illness. She leaves 2 nephews, Frederick Phicox of Northboro and John Philcox of McCormick, South Carolina; a niece, Judith Hunt of Poughkeepsie, NY; a sister-in-law, Doris Malm of Worcester. A brother, Leon Malm and a sister, Ruth Philcox predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of George P. and Freda A. (Fernland) Malm and has lived here most of her life. She graduated from North High School in Worcester. She attended Rhode Island School of Design and graduated from Alfred University in New York with a master in fine arts. Mrs. Malm worked as a commercial artist at the Worcester Free Public Library. She was a director of activity for the U.S. Navy. She was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the United States Naval Hospital in Corona, CA as a pharmacist mate second class from 1944 to 1946. She entered the Washburn House in June 16, 1987. She was a life time member of the First Baptist Church in Worcester. She enjoyed painting and hand crafting including intricate lamp shades. She was an avid reader and loved classical music. She took vocal lessons.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Novemeber 1st at 1:00 PM in the Davis Chapel at the First Baptist Church, 111 Park Avenue. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue will be directing the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washburn House, 1183 Main Street, Worcester, MA, 01603.
