Janice Smith Vickers, 61, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 23 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Steve Hand and Rev. Danny Lovett officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Vickers was born September 6, 1945, in Ocilla to the late J. Looney and Ruby Passmore Smith. She lived in the community all of her life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1963. Mrs. Vickers attended Georgia State College for Women and graduated from Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College in Cosmetology. She was a homemaker, she worked with her mother at Ruby’s Beauty Shop, was a former employee of Buster’s Sporting Goods, H.R. Kaminsky & Son’s, Delco-Remy Battery Plant and Colony Bank Corp. Along with her family she worked for many years at Lake “B”. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and a member of the Garden Club.
Mrs. Vickers is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Elie C. “Buster” Vickers of Fitzgerald; daughters and sons-in-law, Jodie & Lee McGraw of Vienna and Janicea & Todd Whitley of Warner Robins; sons and daughters-in-law, Elie C. “Buddy” & Stephanie Vickers of Jackson and Johnny & Linda Vickers of Auburn, IN; grandchildren, Hunter and Jackson McGraw, Kline and Krista Whitley and Amelia Vickers; brother and sister-in-law, Larry & Nancy Smith of Dillard along with a nephew and a niece, Abram and Sarah Smith of Dillard.
