Robert J. Carroll, 86 years of Brockton, died Friday evening at Blue Hills Health Center after a period of failing health. Born, raised and educated in Boston, he was the son of the late John L. and Mary J. (McCarty) Carroll. He was a graduate of Roslindale High School class of 1938, and was a decorated Army veteran of WWII, who enlisted in 1940 and served overseas. For 30 years he had been employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Works, retiring as a General Contractor Inspector. He had been a resident of Brockton since 1963 and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 32, and a longtime member of VFW Post 1046.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Angela T. (Barelli) Carroll, two sons John L. Carroll of Newport Richey, Florida and Robert J. Carroll, Jr. of Brockton, two daughters Anne Marie Carroll and Teresa Needleman both of Brockton, four grandchildren Ashley, Austin, Samuel and Jacki, and four nieces. He was the brother of the late John L. Carroll, Jr. and Edward J. Carroll.
