Obituary

Mildred (Prodgers)Yeats, the Volunteer Bureau at United Community Services and Director of Volunteer Services at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., died Jan. 17, 2007, at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center in Mystic.

Born in Pittsfield, Millie was a member of the first class to graduate from Pittsfield High School in 1932.

She married Willard C. Yeats of Pittsfield in 1935, and lived in the Berkshire County city for most of her life. Willard Yeats predeceased her in 1961.

Long active in South Congregational Church, Millie was a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, past president of the May Mattoon Class and the Ladies Benevolent Society. For many years she was the Lay Visitor for the church, greeting members and newcomers at services, and calling on shut-ins and those hospitalized.

In the Pittsfield community, Millie was a long-time member of United Way committees, served many years on the board of the YMCA, was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Pittsfield Boys Club Swimming Committee, and the Bobby Kidney Sunshine Club. She was a co-recipient of the Business and Professional Women's Club Woman of the Year Award in 1978.

In retirement, Millie was an avid golfer and a member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club. She also enjoyed traveling to visit her family, and particularly enjoyed Florida in the warm weather.

Millie was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Prodgers and by two brothers, William R. Prodgers and John D. "Bud" Prodgers.

She is survived by her sisters, Janet Prodgers Horne of Sun City Center, Fla., and Ruth Prodgers Taylor of Venice, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. She also leaves her daughter, Nancy Yeats Brandt and her husband, Karl G. Brandt, of West Lafayette, Ind., and her son, Willard P. Yeats and his wife, Delores W. Yeats, of Niantic; four grandchildren, Kristin Y. Gillespie and her husband, Peter Gillespie, of Haddam, Betsey J. Yeats and her husband, Russell Campanello, of Lincoln, Mass., Wendy Brandt Benedict and her husband, John Benedict, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Derek Y. Brandt and his wife, Stephanie Lyons, of Edwardsville, Ill. Millie is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Allyson and Kaitlin Gillespie, Meghan and Kara Benedict, and Nina and Sarah Campanello.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm. on Saturday, March 10, at South Congregational Church in Pittsfield, Mass. The family will receive guests in the church parlor following the service. Burial will be private in Pittsfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and at Millie's suggestion, friends are invited to donate to the newly established "Millie Yeats Memorial Fund" at South Congregational Church, 110 South St., Pittsfield MA 01201.
