Retired Mansfield School Teacher

Sylvia M. (Conrad) Thompson, 95, of Chelmsford formerly of Mansfield died on Saturday January 6, 2007 at the Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Thompson to whom she was wed to for over 34 years at the time of his death on February 13, 1971.
Born in East Lawrencetown Nova Scotia, Canada on September 29, 1911 she was a loving daughter of the late Theodore S. and Gladys E. (Merson) Conrad.
She was raised and educated in Mansfield and was a 1928 graduate of Mansfield High School. She went on to become a 1930 graduate of the Framingham Normal School. Mrs. Thompson was a retired Elementary School Teacher having worked at the former Roland Green School in Mansfield for 25 years before retiring in 1976. She had formerly taught in Warwick, Rhode Island for 7 years.
Sylvia was a member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Mansfield. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star in Mansfield were she served in various capacities. She had also belonged to the organizations chapters in Foxboro and Attleboro. She served as Grand Deputy of the Grand Chapter in Massachusetts in 1989.
A longtime summer resident of Sandwich she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. After her retirement she had traveled extensively around the world. Her most favorite times spent were those in the presence of her loving family. Sylvia had lived in Chelmsford for the past 4 years and had formerly lived most of her life in Mansfield.
She is survived by her devoted daughters Elaine S. Jelescheff and her husband Jelescho of Chelmsford and Roberta L. Najjar and her husband Kenneth of East Kingston, New Hampshire. She was the dear sister of the late Kenneth E. Conrad, Sterling S. Conrad, Emerson S. Conrad, Alice B. Amero and Thelma E. Dukes. Also surviving are her loving 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grandson as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday January 9th at 1:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the services on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. A service conducted by the Order of Eastern Star will also be held on Tuesday at 12:30 P.M. in the funeral home.
