Fall River - Ruth-Gloria (Hayman) Dexter, 74, of Westport Point, formerly of Leominster passed away peacefully Friday, January 5, 2007 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of George O. Dexter, Jr.
Born in Providence, RI, daughter of the late W. Harold and Ida B. (Goswell) Hayman, she had lived in Leominster prior to moving to Westport Point in 1986. A graduate of Cranston East High School, Cranston, RI and Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ, she pursued her passion for music throughout her life. She was a founding member of Concerts at the Point and gave the chamber music organization its name. Mrs. Dexter was a member of and frequent soloist with the Westport/Little Compton Summer Chorus since its inception and was also a member of the Greater Tiverton Chorus. She was a member the choir and alter guild of St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea Church, Little Compton.
Including her husband, she is survived by 2 sons: George O. “Owen” Dexter III of Medfield, MA and Jonathan C. Dexter of Westport Point; 2 daughters: Laurie A. Douglas of Lexington, MA and Susan E. Dexter of Boxborough, MA; 2 sisters: Lois-Belle Crankshaw of Cranston, RI and Joan-Sandra McKnight of Warwick, RI; 4 grandchildren: Katherine C. Douglas, Kimberly A. Douglas, Molly E. Dexter and George O. Dexter IV; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea Church, Little Compton at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Swan Point Cemetery, E. Providence, RI.
