WEST BOYLSTON-Kyu Soo Kim, MD, 69, of 19 Brooks Crossing, died Thursday, January 4 in UMASS Memorial Healthcare. He leaves his wife of 37 years, Sung Ok Kim, a son, Matthew Kim of W. Boylston, two daughters, Peggy Kim in Maryland and Geraldine Kim of W. Boylston. He also leaves a brother and five sisters.
He was born in South Korea, the son of Young-Ho Kim and Kyu-Whan So and graduated from Kyungpook National University School of Medicine where he later became a professor of physiology. While in Korea, Dr. Kim served in the Korean Army as an army surgeon during the Vietnam War and later emigrated to the United States in 1975, moving to West Boylston on July 1, 1981. Dr. Kim worked at Worcester County Hospital for many years and most recently held a private practice in Lowell. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
The funeral will be Monday, January 8 from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 the morning of the funeral in the funeral home.
