Methuen, MA – Ret. Mass. State Police Officer, Thomas J. O’Brien, Jr., 60, died Wednesday January 3, 2007 at Holy Family Hospital.
Born in Medford, Ma. Trooper O’Brien was a graduate of Medford High school class of “1964” and the Northshore Community College with an associates degree in criminal justice.
For 25 years from 1970-1995 Trooper O’Brien served with the Massachusetts State Police before his retirement.
During the Vietnam War he served his country in the United States Marine Corp. and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Rifle Expert Badge.
Trooper O’Brien was an attendant of Saint Monica’s Church of Methuen, the Medford VFW post # 1012, and the Makusue Ski Club of North Conway, NH, where he served as past president.
A 22 year resident of Methuen survivors include his wife of 29 years; Helen P. (McAnneny) O’Brien, one daughter Meghan O’Brien of Methuen brother David E. & wife Lynne O’Brien of Lawrence, sister Donna A. & her husband Vincent Frattura of Medford, one niece and several nephews.
He was the oldest of 38 cousins.
Thomas is predeceased by his parents Thomas J. O’Brien, Sr & Mary R. O’Brien.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11 o’clock in Saint Monica’s Church in Methuen with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
