Obituary

Dorothy L. "Swannie" (Swanberg) Aho, 71, of Worcester, died Monday, January 1st, 2007. Her precious soul made its journey forward into heaven from her final resting place - UMass Memorial University Campus Hospital, Worcester.

She leaves her loving family, daughter, Nancy Aho of Worcester, daughter Heidi (Rioux) O'Leary of Auburn; son, Wayne Aho Jr. and wife Pamela of Holden; her loving grandchildren, Erica Rioux of Worcester, Evan Rioux of Worcester, Benjamin Aho and Rachel Aho of Holden, Amanda and Lindsay Roach of Holden; her sister, Helen and husband Earl Lockhart of Fitchburg. She also leaves many close friends and personal care attendants who were a part of her life throughout the years.

Dorothy was born in Boston in 1935 and was adopted by Axel and Clara Swanberg of Worcester. She graduated from North High of Worcester in 1954. She then went on to work as a dental assistant in the Worcester area for many years before becoming ill with a degenerative neurological condition. Dorothy courageously dealt with this condition for over 40 years.

Even with her own misfortune, she chose to devote her time and heart volunteering for many years at Worcester City Hospital and UMass Hospital University Campus. There, she gave her support to terminally ill patients of the Palliative Care Unit, and also assisted in providing information to patients in the blood clinic.

Dorothy was an inspiration to everyone she had pleasure of connecting with. Her smile and consistent positive attitude touched many lives throughout her time. Her exceptional example of perseverance with all of life's hardships has taught us all to cherish the gift of life we all share. Her persistence in life has provided us with many unforgettable memories. Her strength showed us we should never give up, no matter what life has to offer. Our love for her will never die, and her memory will live on forever!
