Obituary

West Boylston- Arnold W. Pitman, 82, of 137 Sterling Street died Tuesday, October 8th in The Meadows of Leicester after an illness. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Marion L. (Olson) Pitman; a son, Craig A. Pitman of Paxton; a daughter, Pamela J. Pitman-Barker of Oxford; a brother, Charles Johnson Pitman of North Vassalboro, ME; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

He was born in Appleton, Maine the son of Albert G. and Evelyn C. (Taylor) Pitman and was a graduate of Appleton High School and the University of Maine at Orono. He was an Army veteran of World War II . Mr. Pitman was a soil conservationist for the Department of Agriculture for 35 years, retiring in 1983 and previously served on the Sterling Conservation Commission and Sterling Board of Health. He was a member of the Holden Chapel, Quantabacook Mason Lodge # 129 in Searsmont, ME and loved gardening, fishing and the outdoors.

The funeral will be Friday, October 11th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home (oconnorbrothers.com), 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a 10:00 AM service in Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir Street, Holden. Burial will be in Moorlend Cemetery, Paxton. Calling hours are Thursday, October 10th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir Street, Holden, MA 01520.
