SOMERSET - Manuel Nordeste, age 98, of Somerset, died Saturday at Marian Manor, Taunton, MA. He was the husband of Mary (Pires) Nordeste, Father of Gerald and his wife Susan of Assonet, MA; Grandfather of Shannon Affonso of Taunton, MA and Erin Nordeste of Stoneham, MA. He was also survived by: Three Brothers: Daniel C. Nordeste, Frank C. Nordeste, and Edward C. Nordeste all of Somerset, MA;
Three Sisters: Anne Wilson, Olive Souza, and Delores Sousa all of Somerset, MA; and Many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late John C. Nordeste Jr. Alfred Nordeste and the late Mary Vincent.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late John C. Nordeste Sr. and the late Mary (Estrella) Nordeste. He was a life long resident of Somerset and was a Army Veteran of WWII where he received a Purple Heart. Before retiring in 1965, he worked as a Nurses Aide at Taunton State Hospital for over 40 years. He had previously worked as a Doffer at the former Sagamore Mills. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Somerset, MA and Somerset Center Seniors Club
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 No. Main St., Wednesday at 9:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church, South St., Somerset at 11 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours Tuesday 5-8 P.M.
