Obituary

ISABELLA (CURTIS) "IZZY" TOLMAN, age 85, of Hingham, died on Saturday, Dec. 16th, 2006 at the South Shore Nursing Center in Rockland. Izzy was born on Staten Island, New York on March 26, 1921 and came to Hingham when she was 10 years old. She was a graduate of the National Cathedral School in Washington, DC and received her teaching credentials from Boston College. Izzy later became a teacher at the Lower School of Derby Academy in Hingham where she taught over a period of 44 years. Izzy was one of the longest standing members of the Hingham Yacht Club where she created the "Galley," and was the founder of the then popular "Tuesday Afternoon Ladies' Sinking and Sailing Society." She was a well-known icon for many decades and will be sorely missed by family, friends and all Hinghamites.

She is survived by her former husband, John S. Tolman of Venice, FL; a son, Jay Tolman of Princeton, NJ; a daughter, Ellen Tolman Quirk of Hanover; a brother, Jay Curtis of Winfield, IL and four grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, January 20th, 2007 at 1:00 PM at The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Hingham Yacht Club, 211 Downer Ave., Hingham.The interment is to be private.

Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
