Obituary

Frank J. "Snook" Jackman, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died on Wednesday December 13, 2006, at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA following a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old.

Frank was born in Revere on January 21, 1924. He grew up in Melrose where he attended Melrose Public Schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1941. Following graduation he was working for his fathers business, Jackman Brothers Roofing, which was located in the South End of Boston when he enlisted into the United States Army Air Corps on April 13, 1943. "Snook" served during World War II and was trained as a pilot to fly B-29 airplanes. He was discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant on December 7, 1945, with the ability to pilot a commercial airplane. He returned home and began taking several courses at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and was also working for the family business which he later owned. The business moved to South Boston in the 1970's and he worked on hundreds of buildings and homes throughout the Boston area and was skilled at slate and copper work. After 50 years of hard work, he retired in the 1990's. "Snook" was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1031 of Melrose, the Melrose Fish and Game Club and the Stoneham American Legion Post. "Snook" was active in golfing, skiing and was handy around his home where he was dedicated to his wife, daughters and grandchildren.

Frank is the loving husband of 54 years to Barbara A. (Foley) Jackman. He is the devoted father of Ann Jackman of Melrose and Mary Jane Nottonson and her husband Jeffrey of Acton. He is the loving grandfather of Kaitlyn A. Mulcahy of Melrose, Lewis A., Rebecca M. and Emily S. Nottonson all of Acton. He is the beloved brother of the late Madeline Goodrich, John Jackman, Doris Mahoney, Virginia Sentner, Richard Jackman and Carol Schueler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Frank's Funeral will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose at Wakefield line, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Frank will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2006, from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
