Obituary

HOLYOKE___Reverend Eugene F. Ozimek, 87, of 35 Holy Family Rd., died Sunday December 10 in Mt. Saint Vincent Nursing Home.

Rev. Ozimek was a Springfield diocesan priest and would have observed his 62nd anniversary of ordination on January 13. He was born and raised in Worcester, a son of Anthony B. and Pauline (Zaremba) Ozimek. He leaves a sister, Phyllis wife of Theodore Kaczyk of Fiskdale and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thaddeus and Henry.

Rev. Ozimek received his early education in Worcester and then entered St. Mary’s College, Orchard Lake, Michigan. He also graduated from the Seminary of Philosophy and the Grand Seminary, both in Montreal. He was ordained Jan. 13, 1945 in St, Michael’s Cathedral, Springfield by the Most Rev. Thomas M. O’Leary, D.D. then Bishop of Springfield. He was assigned as a curate to St. John Cantius, Northampton, St. Stanislaus Kostka, Adams, Holy Rosary, Hadley, Holy Family, Pittsfield, Christ the King, Ludlow, Sacred Heart, Easthampton and Saints Peter and Paul, Three Rivers. In 1969 he was named pastor of Holy Family Church in Pittsfield and served there until 1977 when he became pastor of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Turners Falls. In 1984 he became pastor and later administrator of All Saints Church, Housatonic. Rev. Ozimek was then named administrator of Notre Dame, Pittsfield. He then assisted at Holy Rosary, Hadley before becoming chaplain at the Sisters of Providence Mother House and at St. Luke Rest Home, Springfield. His last assignment before retiring was as parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Rosary, Springfield. He retired in 1992. Rev. Ozimek was an accomplished organist and from 1981 to 1985 hosted a religious radio program “Life Can Be Beautiful” on WACE radio, Chicopee.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday Dec. 13 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday Dec 13 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Saint Vincent Nursing Home, 35 Holy Family Rd, Holyoke, MA 01040.
