Of Abington, Friday December 8th, Walter E. 85, beloved husband of Jane (Murphy) Easttey and the late Sue F. (MacPhelemy) Easttey; loving father of Walter K. Easttey of Rockland, Rev.Thomas E. Easttey of New York, Theresa Reynolds Of Bridgewater and Denise Whittey Of Nashville, TN; step-father of Joan Howell of Braintree, Fred Howell of Abington and Michael Howell of Upton. He was the brother of the late Clifford Kimber.
He is survived by 18 grand & great grandchildren.



OBITUARY

Abington Walter E. Easttley, 85 died Friday December 8th in Brockton Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of Jane E. (Murphy) Easttey and the late Sue F. (MacPhelemy) Easttery.

Walter graduated from Weymouth Trade School in 1941 and joined the United States Navy that year. He served during WWII from 1941-1947. In World War II he served in Europe, in the South Pacific and the North Pole on a destroyer, including the USS Gherardi.

He was a self employed licensed electrician in the area for many years.

He was a long time member of the Abington VFW Post 5737 and served as Commander of the Abington Post as well as District Commander. Walter frequently led the closing song of God Bless America at the Saturday night dances.

He was also a member of the American Legion and was an active Fourth Degree Knight at the Abington Knights of Columbus. He served on the South Shore Vocational Technical School Committee for over 30 years as the Abington representative. He served on the Saint Vincent DePaul’s committee.

Walter was very active socially in the community and loved to visit with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Walter K. Easttey of Rockland, Rev. Thomas E. Easttey of New York, Theresa Reynolds of Bridgewater and Denise Whittey Of Nashville, TN;
his step-children Joan Howel of Braintree, Fred Howell of Abington and Michael Howell of Upton.
He was the brother of the late Clifford Kimber.


His funeral service will be held Tuesday December 12th at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rt. 58 @ the Rotary Circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in the St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held Monday December 11th from 4-8 PM.
