Obituary

Angelica H. (Yankopolus) Alexion, 79, of Fort Myers, Florida died Tuesday September 24, 2002. She was the wife of Lazarus Alexion, whom she married in 1946.

She was born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late George and Polixeny Yankopolus. A graduate of New Bedford High School in 1941, she studied voice and piano with L.J. Oscar Fontaine. She attended Boston University majoring in classical voice and piano.

Mrs. Alexion was the organist and choir director at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Bedford for over four decades. She had also taught voice and piano for many years to youngsters in Fairhaven. After moving to Florida in 1989, she became the organist and choir director at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Ft. Myers. She was a life member of the Society of Symphony Women.

She and her husband were winter residents at Island Park Village in Ft. Myers from 1983-1989, and then built their home in 1989 in Whiskey Creek.

Survivors include her husband; 2 daughters, Regina Cokkinias and her husband Peter of Winchester, MA, and Joan Lorenz and her husband James of Old Bridge, NJ; a brother, Dr. K.G. Yankopolus of New Bedford; a sister, Athena Procopion of Waterbury, CT; 3 grandchildren, Casey Cokkinias, Kimberly Lorenz, and Lucas Lorenz; and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Service was held on Thursday September 26, 2002 in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Myers. Her Burial Service, conducted by Rev. Constantine S. Bebis of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, will be held on Tuesday October 1, 2002 at 11 AM in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
