Robert Earl "Teeny" Averitt, 72, of Tifton, died Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Beverly Health Care. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Robert Alexander will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Zack Steed, Bill Cowden, Mike Purvis, Gene Arnold, Don Evans and Glenn Holley will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Averitt was born on December 24, 1933 in Omega and was the son of Jake L. Averitt and Cora Elizabeth Thompson Averitt, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Purvis Averitt, who died in 1997; and one brother, James L. Averitt. He was retired from Gulf Oil Company as a truck driver and of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a lifetime resident of Tifton.
Mr. Averitt is survived by one son, James E. "Jimmy" Griffin of Tifton; one daughter, Debbie Holley of Tifton; three grandchildren, Wesley Holley, Angie Griffin and Jaime Griffin; and one great grandchild, Gracie Griffin.
