AUBURN-Hazel R. (Standring) Powers Stienstra, 85, of Worcester died Monday, November 20th in the Life Care Center of Auburn. She leaves her husband George Stienstra, her first husband Francis X. Powers, Sr., died in 1980. She leaves 4 sons; Francis X. Powers, Jr. and his wife Sandra K. Powers, Donald W. Powers both of Worcester, Christopher J. Stienstra of Millbury and Leslie G. Stienstra of Grand Falls, WA, a daughter; Doris T. Powers Mountain of Worcester, 5 grandchildren: Christine Toupin, Stephen Powers, Kimberly Flynn, Meaghan and Zackary Mountain, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.
She was born in Auburn the daughter of Robert E. and Lila (Kenneway) Standring and had worked for over 30 years for the College of the Holy Cross, retiring in 1983 as food service manager. Mrs. Powers Stienstra had been an active member of Sacred Heart Church for 63 years and a member of its Ladies Sodality.
The funeral is Saturday, November 25th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, November 24th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
