WORCESTER-Edward F. Quinlan, Jr., 75, of 115 Heywood Street died Saturday, December 1st in his home after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 47 years Marilyn E. (Mara) Quinlan. A son Mark E. Quinlan and a daughter Patricia Newcomb both of Worcester, a brother John Quinlan of Duxbury, 3 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester the son of Edward F. and Emma (Leahy) Quinlan. He was a graduate of North High School, and then served in the U. S. Navy during World War 2. Mr. Quinlan retired from the United States Post Office in 1988 where he had worked for 20 years. Previously he had been employed by United States Steel and Wire, and later by the Rice Barton Companies. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church. Mr. Quinlan was a noted local historian and had served on the Worcester Historical Commission. He was the owner of the Heywood House, built in 1732 and is one of the oldest houses existing in Worcester today. He was an avid gardener and world traveler.
The funeral will be Tuesday, December 4th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, December 3rd from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
