Obituary

Worcester

John J. McLoughlin Jr. 73 of 49 Pleasant Valley Dr. and South Yarmouth died Monday (Sept.23) at Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

His wife of 47 years, Catherine A. “Casey” (Feeley) McLoughlin died in 1999. He leaves two sons, John A. McLoughlin of Middletown, CT and Michael E. McLoughlin of Worcester, two daughters, Jean M. Burdick of Killingly, CT and Mary T. Breault of Worcester, a brother, William F. McLoughlin of Westborough, a sister, Joan Santy of Hardwick, 10 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A Son, James F. “Jimbo”McLoughlin of Worcester died in 1977. He was born in Worcester son of John J. and Marguerite (Ryan) McLoughlin. He graduated from Saint Peter’s High School. He moved to South Yarmouth in 1991 returning to Worcester last year.

He was a Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He was the General Manager of Domestics and Bedding at O’Coins Homebrands from 1974 until retiring several years ago, prior to that he worked for many years at the former Denholm and McKay Department Store and John MaGinnes both in Worcester.

He was a member of Saint George’s Church, and a founding member of Saint Christopher’s Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88 and the 4th Degree Bishop O’Reilly Assembly. He was a Past President and Secretary of the Worcester and Yarmouth Kiwanis Clubs and was awarded the 2001 Lifetime Kiwanis Award and the Hixon Award. He was a member of the Yarmouth Recreation Commission, Worcester Club of Cape Cod and the Irish American Club of Cape Cod, and was active in Yarmouth Youth Athletics.

A Funeral will be held Thursday (Sept.26) from Fay Brothers Funeral Home (www.faybrothers.com) 1 West Boylston St. West Boylston with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church 38 Brattle St. Burial will be in Saint John’s Cemetery.
