O’Leary of Brockton, November 7, 2006, William M. O’Leary, 65 years. Brother of Patricia A. Lawton of Bridgewater and Timothy O’Leary of Foxboro. Longtime companion of Florence Atwood of Brockton and her children, Jackie Congdon, Dawn Cruickshank and Kerry Doherty. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. The Mass will be celebrated by both Fr. Jim Chichetto, C.S.C. and former president of Stonehill College, Fr. Bartley MacPhaidin, C.S.C. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 pm.

Obituary

William M. O’Leary, of Brockton, died suddenly on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at his Brockton home. Mr. O’Leary, was born on October 9, 1941. He was the son of the late popular Brockton Police Officer Joseph Francis “Snub” O’Leary and Marie (Clifford) O’Leary.
Mr. O’Leary attended Brockton Public Schools, graduating from Brockton High School with the Class of 1959.
For many years he sold real estate. For the last ten years he has been employed by the Brockton School Department.
Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling to West Point to visit his nephew, Timothy Lawton, who is presently serving with the Army’s Ist Ranger Batallion.
He was proud of his being among a select few who served as altar boys at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish at their original Boylston Street location as well as their present Torrey Street Brockton location. O’Leary’s father, “Snub” O’Leary, was very instrumental in the church’s move to their new Torrey Street location.
He was proudest of the accomplishments of his two daughters: Lauri Gibbons, of Salem, New Hampshire and Kim Centamore, of Walpole, Massachusetts.
For twenty-five years, Mr. O’Leary took an annual trip to Aruba. At the time of his death he was planning his next trip to that island.
In addition to his daughters, Lauri and Kim, Mr. O’Leary leaves his best friend and partner of many years, Florence Atwood, of Brockton and her children: Dawn Cruickshank, Brockton Police Officer Jackie Congdon and Kerry Doherty, all of Brockton. He also is survived by his older brother, retired State Police Lt. Timothy O’Leary and his wife, Mary, as well as their children, Foxboro Police Officer, Timothy O’Leary, Jr., Janine O’Leary and James O’Leary. In addition, he is survived by his younger sister, former Plymouth County Commissioner Patricia A. O’Leary Lawton and her husband, Judge Mark Lawton, as well as their three children, Attorney Patrick O’Leary Lawton, U.S. Army Captain Timothy Clifford Lawton and Molly Burke Lawton, all of Bridgewater.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church,Monday at 10 am. The Mass will be celebrated by both Fr. Jim Chichetto, C.S.C. and former president of Stonehill College, Fr. Bartley MacPhaidin, C.S.C.
