Itara McAllister Yates, 90, of Cypress Pond in Tifton, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Guy McAllister, Wil Walton, Shannon Slatton, Tim Carter, Steve Walker and Jay Prince will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 10, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Yates was born on May 8, 1916 in Brooks County and the daughter of Franklin Leroy McAllister and Minnie Parrish McAllister, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest N. Yates, and her son, Ernest J. Yates; two brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Yates moved from Quitman to Tifton in 1963. She retired from the Farmers Bank (now First Community Bank). She was a member of First Baptist of Tifton; a member of the Bessie Tift Sunday School Class of First Baptist; a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Tifton.
Mrs. Yates is survived by her daughter, Peggy Yates Walton of Greenville, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Jessica Yates Carter and husband, Tim; Marnie Yates Walker and husband Steve; Itara Walton Slatton and husband, Shannon; William Yates Walton and wife, Heather. She also leaves three great grandchildren, William Carter, Jackson Carter and Shelby Slatton; and a brother, W. F. McAllister of Tallahassee, Florida.
