Fre van Hogezand
...belonged to quilting clubs internationally and locally
TEWKSBURY- Fre (Steen) van Hogezand , age 76, died early Sunday morning November 5th at
her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. She is the beloved wife of Herbert van
Hogezand, with whom she had celebrated their 50TH wedding anniversary this past October 22nd .
She was born in Larantuka, Flores, Indonesia on March 11, 1930, a daughter of the late Johannes
B.W., Steen M.D. and Adriane H. (Versteegh) Steen. She was raised in Indonesia until she was
forced to move to Holland in 1945 after WWII. She met her husband in Holland and immigrated
to America in 1962. She continued to raise her family in Holbrook, MA before retiring to
Tewksbury in 1979. She worked as an assembler for DRC, an electronic manufacturing co.
Mrs. van Hogezand belonged to many quilting clubs where she was known internationally and
locally. She was a member of the Tewksbury Senior Center and enjoyed making dolls, homemade
crafts, and knitting. She was also a world traveler and an avid ballroom dancer.
Besides her husband she is survived by one son and daughter- in- law, Maarten J. and his wife
Janice(Primatello) van Hogezand of Lynn. One daughter, Maureen Kotb-van Hogezand of
Orleans, Cape Cod. Three grandchildren Amir Kotb of Amsterdam, Amanda Kotb of Orleans, and
Maarten H.J. van Hogezand of Lynn. One step granddaughter Danielle Cox of Westwood, MA.
She is also survived by two step great grandchildren and many beloved friends. Mother of the late
Herbert-Jan van Hogezand. Sister of the late Jan Steen. Step grandmother of the late Eric
Mathews.

Her memorial service was held Thursday Nov. 9th in the First Baptist Church Tewksbury. Memorials to the VNA 607 North Ave, Suite 17 Wakefield, MA
01880 will be appreciated.
