Mary C. “Mae” (Mahoney) Tormey, a lifelong Newton resident, died Sunday Nov. 5, 2006 at her home. She was 88.
Mae attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton High School. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family and had been a winter resident of Ft. Pierce, FL for many years.
Beloved wife of Martin T. Tormey for 68 years, she is also the devoted mother of Martin T. Tormey Jr. and his wife Mary Ann, Judith McDowell and her late husband Denis, Richard Tormey and his wife Jan, and Paul Tormey and his wife Pamela all of Newton. She was an inspiration to her grandchildren Kevin Tormey of Needham, Karen Brown of Atlanta, GA, Greg Tormey of Boston, Meredith McDowell of Boston, Diane Conuel of Ithaca, NY, Joanna Larsen of Highlands Ridge, CO, Jennie Tormey of Hoboken, NJ, Beth Tormey of Newton and Rick Tormey of Brooklyn, NY. Mae was the loving sister of Pauline Murphy of Newton and the late Julia Farrell, William Mahoney and Robert Mahoney. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Wed Nov 8 at 9 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, Newton Centre at 10 AM. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Tues from 4-7 PM.
