Robert W. Quimby Jr., 56, of Chester, NH died November 2, 2006 after a period of declining health.
He was born in Seattle, Washington on August 19, 1950, the son of Robert W. Quimby Sr. and Agnes Margaret (Dias) Quimby. His family moved to New Hampshire in 1964 and settled in Chester in 1965. He graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1968 and was a Vietnam veteran who served honorably in the US Navy from February 1969 to December 1971.
He worked for multiple employers primarily through Teamsters Local 633. Associated Transportation, McLean’s Trucking, Nashua Motors, and American Yeast were among his past employers. Most recently he worked for Wakefield Materials, formally F&S Transit Mix Co.
He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed following football, baseball, and NASCAR racing. He was a collector car enthusiast and a frequent participant at local car shows and cruise nights. He greatly enjoyed spending time with close family and friends, and was well known as an enthusiastic card player. He was a member of the American Legion, Londonderry Post, and served as a Trustee of Great Hill Cemetery in Chester, NH.
Robert succumbed, after a brief hospitalization, to complications attributed to his ongoing battle with Type II Diabetes. His family would like to recognize and thank the VA Medial Center, especially Marie Gavin, The Surgical Care Group in Manchester, the Elliot Hospital, and Catholic Medical Center, for the wonderful care given Robert.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Christal in August of 1992 and his mother Margaret in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Eileen Mary (English) Quimby of Chester; his mother-in-law, Mary V. English; his father Robert Sr., a daughter, Coreen Toussaint of Rochester, NH; a son, Robert W. Quimby III of Cape Cod; a brother, Ralph Quimby of Derry; two grandchildren; cousins; a niece and nephew; a step-brother, Earle Whitcher of Chester.
The funeral service took place on Tuesday November 7, 2006 in the funeral home chapel. Burial with full military honors followed in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester.
