Richard T. Southworth, 63, of New Bedford died Sunday October 29, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Hubert J. and Agnes (Proctor) Southworth, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Southworth was formerly employed as the civil defense director for the City of New Bedford until his retirement.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Class of 1964.
Survivors include his brother, Robert J. Southworth of New Bedford; and four cousins, Thomas J. Southworth and his wife Susan, William T. Southworth, and Margaret M. Perry and her husband Raymond, all of New Bedford, and Linda E. Gerard of Fairhaven.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 AM in St. Lawrence Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
