Joseph James O’Connell, 27, of 20 Terry Road, Gales Ferry, died Saturday in Ledyard from heart failure while riding his mountain bike.
Joe was born in Wakefield, RI of August 8, 1975 the son of Leslie (Taylor) Kononchik of Gales Ferry and the late Joseph O’Connell.
He enjoyed mountain biking, music, cars, and was known for his landscaping talents.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Joseph Kononchik, a daughter, Alexis O’Connell, a sister, Amy Laurent of Hawaii, maternal grandparents Arthur and Helen Taylor, paternal grandparents, Joseph and Shaury O’Connell, his girlfriend Erin Santos of Pawctuck his dog Buell, and many close relatives.
Service arrangements were changed on Thursday. The family now invites relatives and friends to join them to celebrate Joe's life at a Graveside Funeral Service at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Rte. 214, Ledyard on Saturday at 11am.
There are no visiting hours. The family asks that those who wish, donations may be made to a charity that they feel best honor's and celebrate's Joe's life. For those who wish to send flowers, please ask your florist to consult with the funeral home office for delivery time.
