Obituary

Dorothy L. Maynard passed away peacefully at home Saturday, surrounded by her family.

Born in Manhattan on February 13, 1921 she was the oldest of five children to Hugh F. and Frances Powles Linden.

She was married to the late Robert L. Maynard, Jr., a merchant ship captain, on November 7, 1942 and they enjoyed 51 full and happy years together. The couple settled in Noank in 1957 where they raised eight children. Captain Maynard passed away in 1994.

A kind and generous woman, she devoted her life to her family. She delighted in their accomplishments and enjoyed keeping her extended family up to date on all the latest news in each other's lives. In recent years she enjoyed traveling abroad with her children and visiting with them and their families when not hosting them at her home in Noank.

She is survived by her childre, Sister Barbara Maynard, VSC of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert L. Maynard III of Tavernier, FL, Jeffrey P. Maynard of Merritt Island, FL, Christopher Maynard of Laurel, MD, Denise M. Mahoney of Noank, Therese D. Devens of Groton, Matthew M. Maynard of Lake City, FL and Andrew M. Manyard of Stonington., eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In addition she is survived by her brothers Hugh Linden, William Linden and Donald Linden. She was predeceased by her beloved sister and best friend Frances (Frannie) Casey.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm Monday at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10am Tuesday at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery following the service.
