Obituary

Mary Louise Alves, 95, of New Bedford died Thursday October 19, 2006 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Fortunato Alves and Louise (Araujo) Roderiques, she lived in Boston and New York before returning to New Bedford in 1970.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Miss Alves was formerly employed as a domestic worker in private homes in New York, Bermuda, and Nantucket.

She was a member of the St. Martin de Porres Guild, the Our Lady of the Assumption Club, the Our Lady of the Assumption Senior Citizens, and the Sacred Heart Society. She was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River and the Margaret Lahey Our Lady of Good Counsel Award from the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include a sister, Patricia Rebeiro of New Bedford; two brothers, Donald Rodericks and his wife Dolores of New Bedford and Joseph Pina and his wife Olivia of Arizona; her godchild, Dolores Costa of New York; her special friends, Mary Galvin, Louise Cruz, Benny Rose, Charlotte Figuerido, and Lawrence Cabral; and nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Dorothy Rose and Alice Pinto.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
