Obituary


Joseph M. Manzo, a member of the Boston College Hall of Fame, died Sunday at the Lawrence General Hospital. He was 89.


A long time Medford resident, Joe distinguished himself as a member of the class of 1941 at Boston College. His contributions to the the football team not only won victories on the gridiron, but also won Joe a place in the athletic Hall of Fame. After graduation, Joe served in the Army during World War II and saw action during the African Campaign. He even found time to play football with the army. Upon his return to civilian life, Joe played professional football with the Detroit Lions. After his football career ended, Joe worked many years a salesman with NP Liquors. An avid golfer, Joe was a member and fixture at the Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover. He was honored by his dear friends when Indian Ridge began the “Joe Manzo Open” two years ago.


Joe was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Skutnick). He was a devoted brother to Michael Manzo of Centerville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was a close companion and friend to Terrence Dolan of Stoneham. He also leaves his extended family and friends at Indian Ridge.


A Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, October 20, at 11 AM in St. Joseph Church, High St. Medford. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
Relatives and friends may visit Thursday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.
