TEWKSBURY - Nellie D. (Baxter) (McGowan) Thompson, age 78, died Monday evening, Oct.
16, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Lowell, after a long period of declining health. She was the
wife of Earl W. Thompson, with whom she had celebrated a 19th wedding anniversary, this past
July 3rd.
She was born in Edgar, Nebraska, and raised in Nebraska, as one of eight children. She had lived
in Tewksbury since 1958.
Mrs. Thompson worked from her home as a sub-contract solderer and electronic assembler to
several area electronic manufacturers.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woburn.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Coleen Silva and her husband Michael of Fairhaven,
MA; two sons and daughters-in-law, William McGowan and his wife Patricia of Amesbury, and
Kenneth McGowan and his wife Shelly of Billerica; seven grandchildren, April and Karla Silva,
William and Phillip McGowan, Mark, Nicole and Kellie McGowan; a brother, James Baxter of
Calif.
She was also the wife of the late William McGowan.
Her funeral was held Thursday, Oct. 19,in the funeral home. Burial followed at the Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the 1st Baptist Church of Woburn, 3 Winn
