Obituary

Cpl. Nicholas A. Arvanitis, age 22, died Oct. 6th while serving our country in northern Iraq.

Nick grew up and attended schools in Salem, NH, graduating from Salem High School in 2003. Nick was a Corporal and a squadron leader for the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division based in Fort Bragg, NC. He was on his second tour of duty overseas when he was killed.

As a child, Nick played Little League baseball, soccer and football for the Salem Rams. While in high school, he was on the wrestling team, played guitar in the jazz band and sousaphone in the marching band. Nick marched with the band in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA. He was also a Sea Cadet.

His greatest passion was music. Nick planned to pursue a career in music after his service in the Army. He formed a heavy metal band, Thrall, with his friends Brandon and Billy.

He loved his country and wanted to defend it like his two grandfathers did. Nick was a great role model. Young guys looked up to him and leaders counted on him. Nick loved his family and his friends and will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him. Nick’s smile will forever live in the hearts of those that loved him.
