McDermott (Tosca), RoseMary “Rosie” of East Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton on September 29, 2006. Rosie was 69 years young. Daughter of the late George and Frances McDermott. She will be forever loved and missed by her children: Regina M. Tosca and her partner Louise Green, Leanne L. Tosca, Diana E. Tosca-Reynoso and her husband Blas, Michael J. Tosca, Dawn G. Tosca and her partner Nicole Anacleto, and the late infant Tracy Tosca. Proud and loving grandmother of Genaro Tosca Reynoso, Chiara Rose and Bianca Rose Reynoso. Loving friend to her three cats, GJ, Sebby and Kiko. Former wife of John M. Tosca, Jr.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. James Flavin at St. Edith Stein Parish/St. Edward Church Friday at 9:00 am. Visiting hours are omitted. The family will have a private burial at the cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a reception after Mass, at a location to be announced at the service. RoseMary “Rosie” McDermott of East Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died Friday, September 29 after a brave struggle with ovarian cancer. She was 69 years young.
Rosie was born November 19, 1936 and grew up in Randolph, the daughter of George and Frances McDermott. She attended Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree and went on to graduate from Boston College in 1960 with a degree in special education. She taught and worked in the Springfield, Holbrook, Brockton and Easton public school systems. She also served on the administration of Massasoit Community College for 17 years, retiring from her position as Assistant Director of Student Life in 2001.
Rosie was very active in her church and in her community. She was on the parish council of Our Lady of Lourdes, where she also taught CCD. She served on the board of the Brockton Historical Society and was president of the Catholic Mothers’ Club. She loved to sing at Saturday mass at the Chapel of Our Savior, Friars of the Atonement. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Rosie touched so many people with her spirit, energy and love of life. She was a vibrant and adventurous soul, a great friend and a devoted mom. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and three cats.
Rosie is survived by her five children, Regina, Leanne, Diana, Michael and Dawn; her three grandchildren, Genaro, Chiara and Bianca; and her former husband and friend John.
Rosie’s life will be celebrated in a Memorial Mass to be held Friday at 9:00 am at Saint Edith Stein Parish (formerly St. Edward’s Church). The family will hold a private burial.
