Obituary

Funeral services will be held on Thursday for Attorney Morris Karll of Chelsea. Attorney Karll died on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 in the Annemark Nursing Care Facility in Revere. He was 87 years old.

A lifelong resident of Chelsea, he was born on December 27, 1918, the son of the late Samuel and Sadie (Fleisher) Karll. He was educated in the Chelsea Public Schools, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1937 where he served as the class president. After graduation he attended Northeastern University where he earned his law degree in 1941. Attorney Karll began his law career in Chelsea but was forced to put his plans on hold in order to serve his country during World War II. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on May 9, 1942 in Boston. He served with the 125th AAF Base Unit as an Administrative Specialist. Attorney Karll was the recipient of the American Theatre Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on November 29, 1945 at Andrews Field in Washington D.C. Upon returning from distinguished military service, Attorney Karll returned to his practice of law and became the City Solicitor for the City of Chelsea. He had practiced law for over 60 years and was still involved at the Karll Law Associates along with his son, Attorney Stephen Karll, at the time of his death. He was a lifelong member of the Walnut Street Synagogue, a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Chelsea and Revere Bar Associations, and the Thompson Country Club in North Reading. Attorney Karll was an avid golfer and was a dedicated loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to so many over the years.

Attorney Karll is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth (Cohen) Karll; his son, Attorney Stephen Karll and his wife Judy of Braintree and Stephen’s late wife Roselyn Karll; and his daughter, Janis Karll of Revere. He was the cherished grandfather of Alysa, Meridith, and Rachel and the great-grandfather of Aidan, Jake, and Ava Rose. He is the brother of Rena Slipacoff of Florida and the late Esther Brenner and Herman Karll.

Attorney Karll's funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Avenue, (Cary. Square) CHELSEA. Rabbi Earl Kideckel of Temple Beth Torah of Holliston will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors at the Agudos Sholom Cemetery, 232 Fuller Street in Everett. Memorial observance will be held at his late residence on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, Friday 2-6 PM, and Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Those wishing to remember Attorney Karll may do so through memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 9 Riverside Rd. Weston, MA 01493. Arrangements under the direction of the Torf Funeral Chapel, serving the North Shore Jewish Community for over 70 years.
